An offseason news piece suggests rookie running back Zach Charbonnet will garner significant playing time as a rookie
A collective groan arose from the dynasty community when the Seahawks selected Charbonnet in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, torpedoing current starter Kenneth Walker's second-year potential and dynasty ranking. In yet another example of the lack of dependability for the running back position, Walker's draft ADP fell a full round to 26 following the draft. As for Charbonnet, he's a do-it-all back with the ability to carry-the-load if called upon. Instead, the Seahawks now possess an upside RBBC which will likely mute the production of all involved. Zach Charbonnet is found as DLF's RB33.

UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Many will look at this pick as a shocker but the Seahawks have a storied history of drafting running backs early and often. There were rumors of Seattle's interest in Charbonnet over the past few weeks and those look to have been spot on. The Seahawks simply love competition at every position and had little behind Kenneth Walker. This pick is going to be better in reality than it is in fantasy as Charbonnet will likely eat into Walker's workload enough to move him down in the rankings. At the same time, there's no starting path for Charbonnet, who will likely slip down into the second round of rookie drafts now.

According to BackCAST projections, Zach Charbonnet is the most overrated running back in the 2023 NFL Draft
The BackCAST model projects running backs based on successful statistics from the past in order to gauge future success. According to this model, Charbonnet ranks 12th in this year's class. In his case, his score takes a significant hit due to workload share. While not purely scientific in nature, the BackCAST model remains popular and does have roots in what has worked in the NFL in the past. Charbonnet, still possesses a three-down skillset and, while not overly dynamic, has a blend of power, vision and hands as a receiver to excel in the right situation. He's found as DLF's rookie RB3.

It's a good time for Charbonnet who profiles as an every-down-potential player at the next level. He added a 37" vertical and a 10'2" broad jump to round out his day. Charbonnet can do it all and the only question was related to his timed long speed. His official 4.53 time is plenty to secure his position as a rookie first-round selection in dynast drafts, most likely at the bottom of the round. Slipping into round two would present a value-on addition. With a comp to James Conner, Charbonnet won't make his living with jump cuts and quick-twitch agility but he's built for the NFL given his downhill zone style coveted in today's NFL. He's listed as DLF's RB4 and the R8 overall.

Zach Charbonnet will be watched closely during the NFL Combine
It stands to reason as the productive, three-down-potential, runner is capable in every aspect of the position but doesn't present as a high-dynamic player. Teams are not expecting a fast 40-time and will be more focused on agility drills to determine the standout's upside. In a similar mold to that of James Conner, Charbonnet is built for the NFL and could have a long runway for production at the next level in the right situation, but without the hype of backs above him in this year's class. He's listed as DLF's RB5 and the R11 overall.

UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet is listed as DLF's rookie RB6
There's a lot to like about Charbonnet's game film and the 6'1/220 lbs. runner projects well to the NFL as a potential three-down back. He built upon a productive junior season in 2021 by posting a 195/1,359/14 stat-line in 2022, also adding 321 yards on 37 receptions. Statistically speaking, his 2022 yards, touchdowns and receptions were all career-bests, as was his 7.0 ypc. average. Found as DLF's RB6 and the R12 overall, Charbonnet isn't electric with the ball in his but his NFL size, workload potential and downhill style are certain to intrigue NFL coaches. Charbonnet is a noted work ethic performer who also profiles well in intelligence and character, all of which should raise his stock during the NFL Combine. His wide-ranging ranking on DLF should provide intrigue for competitive dynasty coaches selecting late in the first round of dynasty rookie drafts.
