Is Treylon Burks a sure thing as the top dynasty receiver in this year’s class? What is his downside?

Treylon Burks

Our NFL rookie profile series continues with this analysis of 2022 NFL Draft Prospect Treylon Burks, WR from Arkansas. We will continue to provide you with these in-depth rookie profiles and a ton of other fantasy football rookie analysis right up through the NFL Draft. Stay tuned, and stay ahead of your league.

It was former Detroit Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman who said: β€œThere is nothing so uncertain as a sure thing.”

Long considered the WR1 of this stacked draft class at the position, Treylon Burks looks the part of a future NFL star receiver. The Arkansas wideout’s looming physical presence and ability to perform his best under the brightest lights should justify this fanfare. However, we owe it to Coach Bowman and our dynasty squads to conduct more extensive research. Is Burks destined to be the next AJ Brown? Or N'Keal Harry?

I respect and appreciate you bringing his potential downside to light. Too many of us have our rose colored glasses on when looking at the rookies this time of year. It’s good to be reminded that many of these prospects will flame out.

Burks doesn’t have a lot in the way of route running skills. JJAW’s big problem was that he couldn’t separate from NFL DBs, which wasn’t entirely about speed, but being slow didn’t help. Burks doesn’t scare me nearly as much as Drake London. If I squint a little bit when I watch London, I definitely see JJAW, a guy who dominates physically at the college level, but who doesn’t have the quickness or route-running skills to gain separation.

I was all in on Burks before the combine. Still not totally off the Burks hype train, but definitely taking another (long) look at him…. Curious though, in a lot of his highlights he doesn’t really get caught from behind. Play speed faster than testing speed?

great and balanced write-up. I have Burks as my #4 WR prospect pre-draft, after Wilson, London and Jameson, but we shall see!

Obviously, it all depends on where a guy like Williams goes. Too many coaches look at a guy with blazing speed, and all they call for them are deep routes. So many guys are wasted when they have the ability to take a slant or a screen the distance, but never see the ball.
