Just a dagger at the end with the Whiteside comp
I respect and appreciate you bringing his potential downside to light. Too many of us have our rose colored glasses on when looking at the rookies this time of year. Itβs good to be reminded that many of these prospects will flame out.
Burks doesn’t have a lot in the way of route running skills. JJAW’s big problem was that he couldn’t separate from NFL DBs, which wasn’t entirely about speed, but being slow didn’t help. Burks doesn’t scare me nearly as much as Drake London. If I squint a little bit when I watch London, I definitely see JJAW, a guy who dominates physically at the college level, but who doesn’t have the quickness or route-running skills to gain separation.
I was all in on Burks before the combine. Still not totally off the Burks hype train, but definitely taking another (long) look at himβ¦. Curious though, in a lot of his highlights he doesnβt really get caught from behind. Play speed faster than testing speed?
great and balanced write-up. I have Burks as my #4 WR prospect pre-draft, after Wilson, London and Jameson, but we shall see!
Obviously, it all depends on where a guy like Williams goes. Too many coaches look at a guy with blazing speed, and all they call for them are deep routes. So many guys are wasted when they have the ability to take a slant or a screen the distance, but never see the ball.
