Where to Rank Rookie Picks in Your Superflex Startup Draft

John Hogue offers a comprehensive breakdown of where rookie picks fit into startup drafts.

Oh, you’re going to hate this.

Let me offer an olive branch right up front: this is simply a framework. Feel free to adjust to your own rankings. Because, seriously, you’re going to hate this.

Normally this time of year – less than a month from the NFL Draft – we are running mock drafts to create superflex Average Draft Position (ADP) that include the current year’s rookie picks. It’s my gift to you, because if you were to join a superflex dynasty startup right now, the most likely setup would include rookie picks available to be drafted in the startup.

As great as our superflex ADP is (check it out right here, by the way), it includes rookie players instead of rookie picks. Still useful, but not what your startup would look like. And understanding the difference between a defined player and a pick that represents a range of potential players is vitally important when making startup picks or trades that include rookie picks.

The problem is, our mock drafts wouldn’t conclude in time to give you meaningful, useful ADP before the NFL Draft changes everything. But you aren’t here for excuses. You’re here for rankings. So here are some rankings that you will most definitely hate.

These are my superflex dynasty rankings (check them out without the draft picks right here, by the way; isolate my rankings by clicking on my name), but I included each 2022 draft pick, ranking them based on their value – IN MY OPINION – relative to veteran NFL players.

It may go without saying, but rookie pick 1.01 is worth more than Breece Hall or Malik Willis because the pick could be either of those players. Or Garrett Wilson, Treylon Burks, or a rookie QB who is drafted early into a great situation. Immediately after the NFL Draft, my rankings will be updated to include the rookie players once they are official NFL players, with defined teams.

In the meantime, here are my rankings of NFL veterans and 2022 rookie picks. Count to ten, focus on your breathing, imagine your happy place… and enjoy tolerate these rankings!
