Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Draft Strategy: A View from the 1.11

We take a look at the options from the 1.11.

For many dynasty players, the highlight of the off-season is the annual rookie draft and we are now mere days away from many of those drafts kicking off. Once our respective dynasty teams are eliminated from contention (and sometimes even before), we tend to turn our attention to the incoming rookie class and delusions of grandeur take over. In fact, dynasty players spend nearly the entire off-season preparing for how they will use their draft picks, or if they will use them at all.

In this twelve-part series, I’ll use the latest data available here at Dynasty League Football, namely ourΒ April Rookie ADP and theΒ Dynasty Trade FinderΒ to ensure you are as prepared as possible when your draft begins. Based on our most recentΒ ADP data, I’ll suggest the player you could be soon adding to your team, and if you don’t like that, I’ll also include a potential pivot option. In addition, I'll include options based on the updatedΒ 2QB rookie ADPΒ for those who play in that format. Finally, using theΒ Dynasty Trade Finder, I will examine some recent trades that have taken place with each specific draft pick.

We all know the first round of rookie drafts includes the players we’ve been hearing about for months, if not years, but difference makers can be found in the second round and beyond, as well. Because of that, I’ll also address the other picks that accompany each respective first-round draft slot.

Great articles Ryan, nice to see some different options you can approach the draft with in such positions. I have a question for you that I would really appreciate some feedback on if possible.

I have both the 1.11 and 1.12 picks this year. I won my league last year in a 1 QB .5 ppr league so I’d like to think I have a pretty solid team going forward (see below). I know the adage is draft BPA and trade for needs but I am really looking to improve my RB depth for this coming season. With that said, how would you view a few of these options I am considering with those two picks?

Offer the 1.11 and 1.12 picks for a guy like Etienne.
Offer the 1.11 and 1.12 for a random 2023 1st rd pick (considered much better draft) and hope to really upgrade RB next season.
Make the picks at 1.11 and 1.12 hoping to get at least 1 RB there who is not considered a “reach” at that point in the draft.

QB: Mahomes, Fields, Wentz
RB: Javonte Williams, Dobbins, Edwards-Helaire, Hunt, Mike Boone, Derrick Gore, Dare Ogunbowale
WR: Chase, McLaurin, Higgins, Diontae Johnson, Claypool, Sutton, Marquise Brown, Smith-Schuster, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Shenault
TE: Hockenson, Freiermuth
