Dynasty Leverage: 2022 NFL Draft Rookie Running Back Class

Scott Connor outlines his dynasty approach to the running back position.

James Cook

The long-awaited Dynasty Leverage series begins with a bang! While the community-at-large (myself included) is dragging the 2022 rookie class, all dynasty managers await the upcoming NFL Draft with apprehension.

Will the wide receivers come to the rescue? Do the quarterbacks with upside also get draft capital? Can anything save the 2022 rookie class? This first article is here to provide some insight. It all started with a tweet about this year's running back class…

Process Over Players

Before we get into the actual class, let's dive into the motivation behind the tweet. What process are we talking about here? It starts with identifying where running backs actually matter. For purposes of this article, I am assuming we are playing in a 12-team superflex format where you are required to start two running backs and the scoring is one point per reception. I look at basic historical data going back ten years to draw some basic conclusions.

Scott’s content is always next level. Simple concepts that are not easy to implement- but with practice you start to see how it works- and work it does.

Very refreshing take in the face of wide-spread skepticism about the incoming rookie RB crop. There’ll be day 3 gems for sure, vets that unexpectedly loose their footing, surprising reaches, and unfortunate slides. Enjoyed this piece, thank you Scott. Can’t wait for Thursday night when it all kicks off!

Love the take on the strategy Scott. Is this to say that if I have Jonathan Taylor & Austin Ekeler, that I should be liquidating one of them for a haul of either draft picks or other assets? Don’t need wr’s or te’s.

Thanks for the response Scott! The rest of my rb room is Tony Pollard, Boston Scott, Gaskin, Travis Homer, Larry Rountree, and Chris Evans. Let me know if that changes your answer at all in terms of flipping one of the two studs for more depth at rb + other assets.
