Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Drafts: Rookies Destined to be Underdrafted

Which rookies could slip in your drafts and provide great value?

Jahan Dotson

Dynasty owners are often a fickle bunch. The months and months of lead-up to the NFL Draft has tons of scrutiny and evaluation of all of the rookie prospects without seeing what their draft capital is or what team they end up on. Often NFL teams are investing high draft picks in players the fantasy community has written off or team situations that are not overly thrilling draft talent that could be elite. This presents value opportunities in rookie drafts to go out and use the hivemind thinking against your other owners and get some absolute value picks that will help you win a championship.

1. Jahan Dotson, WR WAS (Round 1, Pick 16)

Everyone is going to be jazzed up for the “Gang of Five” wide receivers who topped most pre-draft boards and landed in decent enough landing spots. But Dotson, despite being drafted over Treylon Burks, will be cast aside. Analytics don’t like him as he isn’t an early declare nor did he break out until he was a junior. Most fantasy players will hate his size at 5’11 and 178 pounds. But, being picked 16th overall on a team starving for playmakers could provide some real value.

Head coach Ron Rivera gushed over Dotson’s ability to catch poorly thrown passes from his quarterback over the past few seasons and still create yardage after the catch. Dotson doesn’t play like he is 178 pounds - he has great contact balance and explosive ability. The chances of him being a PPR monster with a ton of receptions are there as he is the only first-round skill position player the Commanders have.

Just like Kadarius Toney the year before, let everyone else in your league call Dotson an NFL Draft reach and not a fantasy asset. As he tumbles into the second round of rookie drafts, snatch up Dotson and watch him showcase the athletic talent to be productive.

2. Kenneth Walker III, RB SEA (Round 2, Pick 9)

Toney was taken late 2nd/early 3rd, usually a choice between him and Pat Freiermuth.
As much as I disliked Toney’s predraft profile, late 2nd rookie draft pick for an NFL 1st rounder is good process.
