Week 17 - Championship Week

It's the week we've all been waiting for in most leagues - Championship week! Good luck!

When looking back at week 16, there was a crazy amount of scoring variability from players who could have been in lineups due to role, but were left out due to production. But this is one of those times I like to highlight why I favor role, whenever possible, over getting "cute" or playing a "reach" in important games. I like to regress to the mean when it's one-and-done as long as I can get behind what the "mean" really is. Any of us who have played this game for any length of time know that it only take one long pass or one long run to change a game. Jaylen Waddle put up 15 points in one play and turned the tide of one of my playoff games - unfortunately I don't roster him in any of my leagues. But it only takes one play and when you have players who are seeing touches but not production, realize that the history of lack of production doesn't ordain lack of production in the future.

I'll talk more about this in strategy below.

As the dust settles on week 16, we had some performances which were certain to produce some bad beats or, at the very least, leave many coaches yelling at the sky about how they got beat by players who came out of nowhere. Let's roll the credits on some of those names:

  • Cam Akers
  • Tyler Higbee
  • Gardner Minshew
  • Leonard Fournette
  • CeeDee Lamb
  • TJ Hockenson
  • Kendrick Bourne
  • D'Onta Foreman
  • Greg Dortch

Note that some of these players have big production upside such as CeeDee Lamb but definitely produced when it was all on the line for fantasy managers in week 16. Funny thing about four of those top five players, I have all but Minshew on my longest running dynasty league and am likely to set the all-time points record in the league this week as a non-playoff team.

To be sure, most of the big games came from big name players and it's not rare to see their names grace the list. But some of those names were borderline starts this week and very well could have been left on the bench without any questions asked. That can make for a rough night sleep.

Looking forward to week 17, we have some tough waters for some players:

  • Derrick Henry faces a tough Dallas defensive unit vs. the run
  • Dolphins' skill position players face off against the Patriots, skilled at keeping output low
  • Jalen Hurts is going to be questionable as they host the Saints
  • Tom Brady and the Bucs host the surging Panthers who still have a solid defense
  • Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne and the Jaguars travel to a Houston team which gives offenses fits
  • Raiders skill position players host the 49ers, not a great match-up for Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs
  • The Vikings travel to Lambeau to face off against their division rival and the Packers are not an easy out
  • The Fading Seahawks host the Jets, another tough defensive team

Lot's of room for downside games here, but we also have some intriguing upside affairs:

  • Cowboys skill position players, especially receivers, versus the Titans
  • Justin Fields vs. the Lions. This is a high-beta (risk) start with the hope he can pile up rushing yards? Can he?
  • The Chiefs host the listing and sinking Broncos, who just fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett as I write this
  • Packers face a very forgiving Vikings defensive unit - Have the stars turned for the Pack?
  • Cam Akers will look to continue his productive ways vs the Chargers in a favorable matchup
  • Lions skill position players vs. the Bears who are yielding loads of points

I'll be looking into these matchups more in the next 48 hours so stay tuned and get those questions posted.

Team Tracking

Semi-finals week is always the most important week in my eyes because it's the gateway to the championship game. If you play in money leagues, it's the game which ensures you're going to get a nice payout, win or lose.

If you recall, as I entered the playoffs, I had 62% of my teams make the playoffs. Well short of my 80% goal. In 2021, I managed to get 40% of my teams into the championship game, a number I fully expected to be unattainable in 2022. Once you hit the playoffs, there's just too much variability in week-to-week production to ever expect to get nearly 50% of your teams into the big dance. That all said, I had to set a stretch goal of getting 50% of my teams to the finals, which would have meant seven teams, given that I am tracking 13 teams in 2022. Realistically, I was hoping to send six teams but still didn't feel I could attain a 46% championship game result.

Those who understand statistics know that it's much easier to attain great results on a much smaller sample size. In fantasy football, once you get over 7-8 teams, it becomes increasingly more difficult to attain impressive results. And there's another factor to consider. At some point, the more teams you add also removes your ability to focus on doing the work/research to keep them all performing at a high level. Miss a high-valued free agent or miss a late game-day inactive player and you could impact your season or, worse, multiple seasons. I know some who play in more than 50 leagues. Since I tend to perform relatively well year-over-year, I've been trying to find that sweet spot for how many leagues I can maintain while still putting in the work to keep them competitive.

As it stands, 13, give or take, seems to be the number for me. It's an inexact science and given that life isn't linear as to the time challenges thrown at you, what can be going very well during one set of weeks can be very challenging in other weeks. I also tend to play most formats within my wheelhouse so that I can apply my research to most all of my leagues. The only real wrinkle is the superflex format which I've come to enjoy but my research still applies, it only needs to be modified for roster build.

So, back to the leagues...

I sent 8-of-13 to the playoffs. Of those teams, of the five who did not advance, I had no expectation for three of them. Of the other two, one was a new startup and performed well (7-7) but not well enough. The other team was a complete surprise and despite a 10-4 finish, it missed the playoffs because we are primarily a total points superflex format and I had some major issues starting in week 10. Unfortunately, I got healthy in week 15, just after missing the playoffs.

Entering week 15, if you recall, I had six teams playing, including one who missed a bye week by a mere two points. If not for the the Green Bay defense, a big research topic of mine heading into the week, I would have been 0-6. THAT would have been a first and it was very disappointing. The Packers bailed me out of that pitiful week by giving me at least two wins. 2-4 is a hell of a lot better than 0-6. The sad thing is that those four losses were by teams which were very strong. I really expected to be 4-2 or 5-1.

So, combined with the two teams which had secured a bye, I sent four teams to the semi-final game:

Dynasty 4

Victory! Not a commanding victory but as I write this, I'm up by five points with Mike Williams remaining. Shout out to Justin Jefferson in this one. Amusing story here in that I picked up the Broncos defense to start vs. the Rams instead of the Patriots vs. Bengals. The Patriots have been my defense all season. In the end, I forgot to make the switch on game day. The Patriots defense scored 14 points and the Broncos, 0. Subtract those points out and I'd need 9+

Dynasty 6

Victory! Solid 20 point victory here despite not forgetting to put in Denver as my defense. This league has been frustrating because this team has always been VERY good but suffers from bad beats in the playoffs. I even had Cam Akers on the bench.

Dynasty 7

Victory! This one wasn't close and I feel bad for the other owner because his entire team laid down. I'm up by 70 with Justin Herbert to go.

SUL9

Victory! Closest game of the four and I squeaked out a two-point victory due to Chris Godwin and my researched pickup of Panthers' kicker Eddy Pineiro who put up 15.3 points. Opponent had Waddle going off while I had Christian Watson chiming in but he left in the second half and wouldn't return. I had thought it might be over due to Waddles big game.

So, 4-0 in semi-finals week and I didn't think that was possible given the strength of some of the teams. Stings a little because a majority of my other ousted teams in week 15 all posted big scores enough to move on to the championship game should they have survived, but that's the game we play.

Out of 13 teams, sending 4 (30%) to the championship game. Below my goal but fantasy is a fickle mistress and any time you can get a team to the ring game, it's a good year.

Strategy

Scoring variability and opportunity production, as I like to call it, are very real in fantasy football. It's a "duh" statement but as much as it plays a role in the regular season, it can be the difference in a one-and-done scenario of the playoffs.

We all fall for the siren's call of a juicy matchup for the off-player on occasion over more notable players but it's something I'm always very aware of. When you get streaky players like Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert, George Kittle, Nick Chubb, Joe Mixon, Miles Sanders, DJ Moore, Brandon Aiyuk, Christian Kirk, just to name a few from 2022, we as fantasy managers have a choice to make when it comes to starting-sitting those names in big games. Even when looking at those names, some aren't automatic starts even in regular-season weeks.

Then you get other names such as Donovan Peoples-Jones, Isaiah Hodgins, Zonovan Knight, Zay Jones, Mack Hollins, Jerick McKinnon, Chigo Okonkwo, Demarcus Robinson, Greg Dortch, etc. who may trend in any given week, and often multiple weeks such that they make for, what would seem, to be an intriguing upside play.

I always try to resist these plays, lest my "every week" play ends up returning to their productive ways but on my bench, causing me lost sleep. It's not sexy to say, but in many cases I'd rather take the loss with my starters rather than risk the trending off-player in what would seem to be a 'juicy' matchup. Where the line exists between genius and foolish is rarely very clear, however.

Over the decades, I've learned that opportunity production, that being a players snaps, regular volume and role, must take precedence over the recent trending off-player start. It can work out gloriously when we catch lightning in a bottle but like a gambler on a hot streak, it usually won't last. Once again, when it comes to my line-up advice, I will rarely suggest a jump the shark play over a more traditional name. I just can't bring myself to do that for/to you. To be sure, there will be times when a player is guaranteed volume and may not be an every-week name, even such that I would recommend them, but these events to be uncommon. Recent plays such as Zonovan Knight, Isaiah Hodgins, Chris Moore and even D'Onta Foreman, Chuba Hubbard, Cam Akers risk the "chasing points" situation where we jump after fool's gold in hopes of lightning striking a second time. If you are going to make plays such as these, please make sure that there's a large number of projected guaranteed snaps. That is where the opportunity comes from.

In most cases, I favor running backs in this situation over receivers. One-week-trend receivers are extremely difficult to project into following weeks. Once they are on the defensive scheme playbook, everything changes. In times like this, I will favor a lower-ceiling receiver who has produced at a consistent level over the one-week anomaly play. Again, my research almost always starts with snaps before production. The rabbit-hole of research which follows then moves lower to routes, quarterback quality, home/away, general match-up, cornerback match-up, weather and then long term and recent term trends for targets into production. Game script is also difficult to project but it's something I'll use. Forecasting blowouts is a mystical art I gave up long ago.

Part of this is me giving you how I dispense advice but it's something you can use in your own games when you wish to make the calls yourself. It's also why I ask you to tell me who YOU would start without my advice. It helps for me to see your coaching style, decisioning tree and I use it so I can become a chameleon of sorts and acclimate to your style and not suggest advice which is too far afield.

I think, over time, however, you will find that you will be more successful in your own decisioning. Of course, despite all of our attempts, we can't be 100% accurate. If we were, much of the fun of the game would be gone.

Good luck in championship week!

Hey Jeff I’m back in the ship after winning it last year. Back to back sounds nice.

Choose two RBs. Need an RB2 and a flex.

Monty, Sanders, Cooks, or JK

Unless you feel Hollywood is a better flex option? Than some or those options.

Well it’s championship week and who’d a thought I’d be here?! I was going up against an undefeated team as a 25pt underdog (per MFL) and won by 16! Thanks for all the help along the way Jeff! I blew up an orphan a couple years ago and now here I am! Big, big props to you and this bespoke article you’ve done for several years now. Such a great perk for members!
12 team ppr/1.25TE PPR

  1. QB: Dak (tenn!) or Burrow (Buff. oof!)
  2. Flex (pick one): C. Kirk (Hou…he had his worst game of the year against them in week 5), a fading Jamaal Williams (Chi), a surging Richie James (colts), Gus Edwards, or DeMarcus Robinson…sorry for so many options but the matchups and trends this week are sketchy.
  3. TE: Kmet (Det) or Taysom Hill (Phi)

Thanks again and good luck in your championship week!

TNF
Hey Jeff,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for all you do.
I am in the championship game in both my leagues.
League 1
Starting Burrow over Lawrence at QB. Not looking back at this point.
RB(2)-Cook, Swift, Edwards Dillon – Starting Cook and leaning Dillon over the others. Swift just isnt getting the touches and the Vikings defense is not very good.
WR(4)- Diggs, Chase, Lamb and need one more from JuJu, Evans, DPJ, Deebo. Leaning JuJu as he has been fairly productive lately.
TE – Freiermuth or Knox- I have been starting Freiermuth but Knox has been a little more productive lately.
League 2
QB- Prescott or Cousins. Leaning Prescott this week.
RB(3) – Starting Stevenson, Elliott – Need one more from Z Knight, A Jones, Dillon, Herbert. Leaning Knight now that White is back..
WR(3) – Starting Chase but need 2 more from JuJu, Z Jones, Palmer and DPJ.
TE – Is this the week to bench Andrews? Probably not. I also have Chigoziem.
Thanks and Good Luck.

TNF – 10 Team ½ point PPR
Need two of four RBs:
S Barkley vs IND, R White vs CAR, JK Dobbins vs PIT and K Herbert @ DET. Barkley is the lock and leaning Dobbins with the better timeshare split over White and Herbert.
Need three of five WRs:
C Lamb @ TEN, K Allen vs LAC, DJ Moore @ TBB, M Evans vs CAR and J Williams vs CHI. Allen and Lamb seem like locks and leaning Moore right now. Keep waiting for that big game from Evans.
Thanks in advance and appreciate all of the help getting to the ship.

Hello Jeff…I hope Santa was good to you and your family.
Half PPR, 12 Team League, 2QB. I am playing G. Wilson and J. Dotson but need one more WR. If Watson doesnt play then I will play Doubs as my #3 WR. But I have an opportunity to trade for Jakobi Meyers or Brandin Cooks. Should I make either of those trades to play as my 3rd WR? (Also have Hodgins on my roster as well.) Thanks.

Hey Jeff, first time in the championship here. Full PPR. Likely losing Tua so working on my superflex replacement between Teddy B, Colt McCoy, Evan Engram, and Brandon Cooks.

Also, how are you feeling about AJ Dillon and DJM this week? They are both starting for me currently.

Thanks!

Hey Jeff, rough Week 16 for me, I’m out of the playoffs in all of my leagues except one. This is the one I wanted to win all year though, I co-GM a team with my Dad and this is our 5th trip to the big dance with 0 rings to show for it. We’d love to finally have a trophy with both of our names on it, but got some work to do first!
Need two flex guys out of these options:
A.J. Dillon
D’Andre Swift
Brandon Aiyuk
Brandin Cooks
Evan Engram
0.5 PPR for RBs, 0.75 PPR for WRs, 1.0 PPR for TEs.
Is putting in Engram too point-chasy? Is Dillon’s usage (or lack thereof) trustworthy? Will Aiyuk get enough targets if his last name isn’t Kittle? Will Swift get injured as I type this? Thanks very much in advance!

Congrats on a successful semi final week! Hopefully it’s another 4-0 week for you

12 TM PPR.
1. 2 flex spots to fill: Waddle (w/o Tua), Swift (w/o Williams?), London, Aiyuk, or Dillon. Was thinking of Knight vs. Seattle but your analysis has me fading that thought, I just can’t trust the Jets week-to-week.
2. Am I crazy for going with Higbee over Knox and Taysom Hill in my TE slot?! He’s put up much better lines with Baker in LA and he ran like 25 routes last week!

Thanks for you input all year Jeff, it’s helped get me this far. Best of luck in championship week!

Agreed, I think my ship will just have to sink with Waddle, thankfully all it takes is one big play from him.

Yeah, I agree with that assessment! Aiyuk seems to be right around 10-13 Ppr points nothing more, nothing less.
Just one follow up. Would you start either Dillon or Swift over Dobbins?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Jeff!

And congrats on your multiple teams… I’m finally back in the ‘ship thanks to lots of great advice here and hoping to do it one more time!

I just need one FLEX, but would appreciate if you could pick your #1 and then rank an alternate: (mostly in case Henry doesn’t play Thursday)

Z. Moss [@ NYG]
D. Samuel (if he plays) [@ LV]
L. Fournette [v. CAR]
J. Wilson [@ NE]
G. Edwards [v. PIT]
C. Sutton [@ KC]
DPJ [@ WAS]
Juwan Johnson [@ PHI]

The big question is would you trust Deebo if he gets a full practice in and is expected to play? I don’t know if I could trust him no matter what.

My gut is Moss. IDK why. Maybe cause I went Fournette over him last week and feel the old man can’t go two weeks in a row.

Gus Bus might have a day versus PIT, but they’ve tightened up that run defense lately.

I worry about NE’s run defense, especially if there’s no Tua, so JWJ scares me too.

The Giants have the worst run defense of my options, right? I just don’t know if anything can overcome Indy’s terrible Qb play.

Ugh! I’m over thinking everyone 😫

My gut:

#1 is Moss
#2 (alternate) is Fournette
Deebo stays on the bench no matter what

Who’s your #1?
Who’s your #2 (alternate)?
What would it take for you to play Deebo?

Thank you so much!

Crap. I accidentally double posted then deleted and re-phrased but forgot to add in its a Standard scoring non-PPR league. Even worse, Henry is definitely out at this point so I’m assuming you still think it’s both Fournette and Moss at this point. Deebo was dancing in a limited practice today tho too, so they might be trying to trick me into thinking he’s going to play 😡 lol

Now Dak is killing me in this first half too!

Anyway, I’m still assuming you like Fournette + Moss in my non-PPR for my RB and FLEX needs. But if knowing it’s non-PPR, who would you put above one of them?

Z. Moss [@ NYG]
D. Samuel (if he plays) [@ LV]
L. Fournette [v. CAR]
J. Wilson [@ NE]
G. Edwards [v. PIT]
C. Sutton [@ KC]
DPJ [@ WAS]
Juwan Johnson [@ PHI]

I could actually sit Hopkins at WR if you think that’s a better idea too.

Thanks again and good luck!

Yea, that first half was disastrous, but in the end I feel lucky I guess. Opponent had CeeDee and could have used one less pass to him, but again, better than it could have gone. Anyway, just a last big THANK YOU for all the time and effort you put in this – and every – year. Fingers crossed and Happy New Year!

Hey Jeff! Made it the finals for the first time in the 8th year of a dynasty league. Been a long time coming, first time I’ve won a semifinal matchup in 5 tries LOL and of course I’ll be out of the country 5 hours ahead, so I won’t know if I won until Tuesday morning, because a 3 a.m. kick off is going to be tough to stay up for lol

Thanks for everything as always, really appreciate the advice and help throughout the season!

Back again with similar questions from a week ago.

PPR 1QB 6 points per TD

Need 2 RB, 2 WR and Flex

RB: Ekeler (duh)

RB: Aaron Jones or McKinnon

WR: Diggs (duh)

WR: Higgins (duh)

Flex: Scary T or McKinnon or Aaron Jones?

Aaron Jones — worrying me after last week and then ankle injury

Scary T — Wentz is back. Yuck

Also i don’t know if you do DEF, but Chargers against Baker or Pats against Teddy?

Martin Cinke

PPR. Pick 3 flex.
Allgeier, B. Robinson, Hodgins, G. Davis, M. Williams.
I went with my gut last week and played Allgeier, Hodgins and M. Williams and it got me to the championship. Leaning Allgeier, Robinson, and Hodgins this week. Slightly worried that Chargers don’t have anything to play for.
Also have Singletary, Hubbard, Boyd, Gallup, Cordarelle on the off chance you think one of those would be better…
Thanks!

standard scoring, 6pt passing TD
QB – Goff or D.Jones leaning to Goff
RB – starting Chubb and Cook
WR – starting Lamb, Godwin, Adams, however, with the news of Stidham and the already difficult matchup should I pivot to Pickens, Hollywood, or KJ Osborn instead of Adams?
Flex – Leaning Dillon over McKinnon, or do i start both and bench Chubb? Hard to bench Chubb but another tough matchup.
Thanks for your advice in advance. Good luck to you in your ships!

Hey Jeff,
Ship time… 2 questions below…

Lamar’s not practicing… do I start Danny Dimes or Mike White?

I’m starting CMC & ETN at RB…
I’m starting Cheetah & Tee at WR…

I need two flex from these four:
1) Rhamondre
2) K Walker
3) Scary Terry
4) Juju

I think Rhamondre’s a lock… I like Walker over Terry with Wentz taking back over…

Do you agree with Walker over Terry & Juju?

Thanks a ton for all the wisdom this season!

Full PPR. Been rolling with Pollard at RB2. Don’t like his outlook this week. My RB2 decision comes down to Pollard, Zeke, or Chubb. I’m going with Chubb and think it’s the right call, but guess I’m looking for confirmation haha. RB1 is Ekeler.

Hey there Jeff, I have an off season question and am wondering where I can ask that question. Is there a separate board on DLF I can use? I want to know if Calvin Ridley has a chance to be a legit WR 2 in 2023.

TNF-Championship week
Dynasty, Non-PPR, 6 pt for TD,1 pt for 10 yards rushing and receiving, 1 pt for 20 yards passing.
I’m playing:
RB- K. Walker
WR- J. Jefferson, J. Chase, CeeDee Lamb
TE- T. Kelce
I have D. Prescott and T. Lawrence at QB. I’m thinking Lawrence because Cowboys play Titans and Titans will probably get crushed without D. Henry and other starters and nothing to play for. So I’m thinking Prescott’s numbers could be low or eventually get sat if its a blowout. Thoughts?
Also, because I only have 1 RB available (J. Taylor is my other), I have a flex position to fill. I need 1 from:
G. Pickens, V. Jefferson, D. Slayton, TJ Hockenson
I’m thinking Hockenson.
Appreciate the help!

LBs are currently Fred Warner, devin white, lavonte David and Dre greenlaw on the bench

TNF

Hi Kemo. Congrats on your semi wins. Good luck this week.

PPR

Only a couple of TNF players since I have Cowboys and Maher starting on a couple of teams. Saw your mention of the Pats being your fav DST. Would you play them over the Cowboys this week?

1) Need three WR’s from Adams, Waddle, Gabe Davis, Gallup on TNF, and Bourne. Read your earlier piece on Adams with his new QB issue but don’t have any stronger options available.

2) I picked up Haskins last night on waivers honestly more to block another playoff team who had Henry outbidding him my last $2 to his last $1. Would you consider playing him tonight out of this group where I need two RB’s and two flex?? – Jacobs, McKinnon, Mostert, J. Wilson, and Moss.

My only other choices for flex would be Bourne, Chris Moore, or Hollins depending on whether Lockett is my third WR or still out.

Thx as always. On my “best” team last night, I tried to pick up the Jags giving up Cleve. I had $105 left in my kitty so I bid a bit more than two of the other three contenders. The remaining playoff team had only spent $80 of his $1000 for the entire season so I felt kinda safe. Last night, he bid $106 three time for three players including the Jags.

Payback’s a bitch……. 🙁

Regarding the WR question above – Start Waddle, Adams, and Davis. That leaves Gallup on the side. I had planned to start Chubb, Aaron Jones, Akers, and Foreman as my two RB’s and two flex for hopefully max touches. Would you replace any of those RB’s with Gallup in one of those flex spots since Davis is now my #3 WR?

TNF TNF TNF

Hey Jeff,

Standard Scoring, no PPR
Prescott or Cousins? I’m leaning Cousins but debating.

DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel (if he plays)?

Thanks!
Mike

Good day Jeff my favorite time of year! Need one PPR. Evan Engram, Amari Cooper or JuJu. Good luck this week.

Hey Jeff, happy holidays to you and your family.
I’m in the championship in 2 leagues and need your help to bring the trophy home in both. I have Pollard on both teams and it really hurts that he won’t be available to me this week.
Both leagues 12-team, PPR
Leage #1 – I need 2 of the following. I’m also interested in who you rank #3 in case Kamara is out on Sunday (he’s now missed 2 practices in a row):

  • Aiyuk @ LVR
  • R.James vs IND
  • G.Davis @ CIN
  • Meyers vs MIA

Right now I have Aiyuk and James penciled in as starters. I’m a very slight favorite to win according to MFL so I’m not necessarily swinging for the fences with this one (I would definitely have Davis in there if I were).
League #2 – I need 1 of the following for my final flex spot (I’m also interested in who you rank #2 in case Jeudy can’t go because of his ankle):

  • J.Wilson @ NE
  • R.James vs IND
  • Meyers vs MIA
  • Z.Jones @ HOU
  • Peoples-Jones @ WAS

I’m also very slightly favored in this game according to MLF. So, again, looking for solid plays and don’t need to swing for the fences. As o fnow, I have James in my lineup due to the Colts inability to stop slot receivers.
Thanks as always for your help and happy new year!

Thanks, Jeff! I went back and forth on this all weekend. Ultimately decided to start Aiyuk and James in #1 and Zay Jones in #2. I just couldn’t bench James in both leagues given the matchup. If I ultimately need to chance points in #1, I can swap Davis for Aiyuk before the 4:00 games.

Morning Jeff, I’ve got three start/sits if you have a minute, all PPR. 1. Njoku or Waller? 2. Which two QB’s from Minshew (if Hurts is out), Purdy, MWhite and DeShaun. 3. DForeman or BCooks (if he shows up lol). Thanks!

Lol, no doubt my friend on these awesome QB choices. Injuries are the fever and the only prescription is depth…and more cowbell! Thanks for a great season Jeff!

Hi Kemo,
Not quite the big game I was hoping for from Dak and the Dallas D but it’s a start.

PPR – on what was my 12-2 1st place team that has slipped badly in the playoffs:

1) After losing out on the bidding war for the Jag DST this week, I’m left with the either the Jets on my roster or bidding Sunday AM for your choice of the NYG vs Indy, AZ @ Atl, or Seat vs the Jets.

2) Here’s the tough ones that will probably be impossible to get right so we both go with our gut here. The team almost has too much talent to choose from.
RB – Starting CMC and Stevenson
WR – Diggs, StB, and your choice of Jeudy, Mike W, or Aiyuk with Lazard and Hodgins tossed in.
Flex – Pick two from Foreman, James Cook, Jeff Wilson, or whichever WR’s you didn’t pick above.

And as the icing on the cake, I’m assuming I’m starting Josh over Burrow playing in Cincy?

Thx again. I’ll be back later with the “easier” questions……. just trying to make your day brighter!

Love ya, Jeff.

This is our 3 trip in 4 yrs to the ship. And back to back..we are 0-2 Jeff…0-2..they are calling me Buffalo Bill, you got to help me here.

We got
Mahomes
Diggs
Keenan Allen
Saquon
Schultz ❤️
Etienne

So, we got 1 flex left between
Evans vs CAR
London vs AZ
Lockett vs NYJ
Sutton vs KC
Jamaal Williams vs CHI
Swift vs CHI
Dillon vs MIN

Give me THE ONE…One time!!!

All right Jeff it’s finals time. I appreciate your opinions and insight. Rather than a straigh up who would you start how do you feel about giving me your thoughts on floor and ceiling? In a half ppr I’m looking at McKinnon or Aaron Jones as my flex. Who is the safe pick and who has the best upside in your opinion? I have McKinnon in right now. I’m in a bad spot at QB after losing Hurts so I’m starting Aaron Rodgers at QB and that is pushing me away from Jones (as is last week’s usage!). I do love the possibility of a passing TD to Jones but watching him play the last 2 weeks has been painfull.

What do you think? Thanks for everything and another great year.

Jeff,

SF standard PPR,
Have Keenan and Lockett rostered but considering Zay Jones due to Locket’s injury and and matchup. Interested in your analysis between Jones & Lockett.
Thanks and Happy New Year

1pt ppr. Ugh Scored the most points in the league and somehow am facing the team that scored the 2nd most points in league in the consolation bracket championship . Damn you 17 game season!
Anywho winner gets #1 rookie pick next draft.
BCooks or Jeff Wilson (also have GusEd)
Jets D or Jags D

Leaning Cooks and Jets but I’m discouraged and throwing darts. What would you do? Thanks Jeff.

James Richardson

1point PPR plus..need a TE bad…my choices are Hunter Henry (Dolphins not good at covering TEs), Jordan Akins (sleeper?), or Gerald Everett (ho hum). I could trade (give up a lot) for Kmet.
Thanks!

James Richardson

Most likely my last question for the season…
I am playing Connor as my sole RB out of 2. Electing not to play Bam Knight, Mostert, or Jamaal Williams but opting to play WRs instead. Keenan Allen is my no brainer but not certain who to roster after Keenan. So…which 3 out of this group:
Chark, Gabe Davis, JuJu, Hodgins, Richie James (Indy does not cover the slot well), Olave (not against Philly), Pickens (too inconsistent).
I am leaning towards Chark and Davis for upside ceiling and then JuJu or James.
Thanks so much Jeff for all your help this season.

Yea, in a normal week I might go Sutton cause Russ is likely going to have to throw the ball a million times trying to catch up to the Chiefs, but Sutton has only gotten over 7 points three times in my non-PPR league this year; plus this extra throws might go to McKinnon anyway. DPJ hopefully is due after a bad last week. I’m going to kick myself if Sutton outperforms because the potential for volume is there, but I guess going with the higher floor is the better strategy then hoping the studs I have left (CMC & Kelce) go bananas lol

Thx for the earlier response.
PPR
1) On the second previous question there, about adding Jeudy as my 3rd WR, who do you recommend after Mike Williams for the final flex (I need two of them). Wilson and Foreman are RBBC as you said but Foreman just seems to have a higher ceiling when he goes off. Other than those two, it’s either Aiyuk, Lazard (Watson iffy?), or even Hodgins.

2) RB – Jacobs, McKinnon
WR – Waddle, Lockett (hand?), Hollywood (Blough!)?
Flex – Choose two from Jeff Wilson, Mostert, Moss, Hollins, Bourne, or Chris Moore.
Would you consider replacing Folk with someone like Gano or Piniero?
If Lockett is out (GTD), my only options for a late game would be to plug in Hollins or Atwell other than going in earlier on Sunday BB waivers and putting in a bid for Treadwell who should take Lockett’s place with Goodwin doubtful. Lockett says he’s playing but admits it’s not his decision.

Back again Kemo…

1) Looking at starting Kamera, Jones, Walker, and Akers for my two RB’s and two flex spots. That leaves Jamaal Williams on my bench who “should” have a nice day vs the Bears. Your thoughts?

2) With Hopkins out, I now have to look at starting Adams, Lazard, and hopefully Lockett for my three WR’s. I also have Richie James available but my only late game pivot if Lockett is inactive would be Demarcus unless I put in an early morning bid for Treadwell or a wild card like Irwin playing on MNF. Your thoughts between Lazard/James or playing “safe” and putting in James for Lockett?

3) Got burned with a big zero from Hunter Henry last week after his collision with a truck named Jonnu. He is supposed to be playing and Jonnu looks to be still concussed. My only options besides Likely on my roster is again visiting waivers in the AM and picking up maybe Uzomah or another wild card in Zylstra. Any recommendations there?

Hi Jeff…happy new year and thanks as always for your help.
Choose 1 (1 pt ppr)
Dj Moore @ TB
Aiyuk @ LVR
Leaning Moore due to more of a hot streak lately and Aiyuk has disappointed in smash spots before this year and seems harder to trust.

2 of these 3 ( 1 pt ppr)
Bam Knight @ SEA
Swift vs CHI
Miles Sanders vs NO
Leaning Swift and Sanders here especially Swift with that matchup.

2 of these 3 (0.5 ppr)
JK Dobbins vs PIT
Swift
Bam Knight

Idp start 2 of these 3:
Dre Greenlaw @ LVR
Fred Warner @ LVR
Josey Jewell @ KC

Thanks man!

PPR
1) Any idea on how the change to Wentz will affect Curtis Samuel’s play which has been pretty good lately? I have him penciled in after AJB and Kirk as my #3 WR with only Bourne, Hollins, and Jameson left to choose from.

2) How about a non-week 17 question? Sunday AM is the last BB waivers for the season and as usual I’m scouting available leftovers to see if there’s someone that I wouldn’t mind taking the chance on for 2023 maybe before they become a “somebody”.

Looking at Tyler Badie recently picked up by Denver, Treadwell who might stick in Seattle as their #3, or even a couple of former rooks now out of favor like Reagor or Hamler. Do you have a couple of “targets” for end of season pickups that you have a particular fondness for??

Thx as usual.

Jeff,
A little late getting this in. Standard scoring, PPR, SFX
Need two Akers, Jacobs, Mixon, Stevenson. I have Stevenson and Mixon starting right now.
From above, the two RBs you would not play, would you play Godwin over either of them? I currently have Godwin in my lineup.
